COLORADO LANDSCAPES
These paintings were inspired by a recent trip to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. I was truly amazed and in awe of what I saw out west. After painting abstractly for two years, I decided to return to the landscape. Although it is not a foreign subject to me, I found that my vision has changed. While in the past, I had painted in a "Romantic" sense, inspired by the Hudson River School painters, now I find that I am breaking up the landscape into sections of color and tone in a more two dimensional way. I have found the relationships between color and light more important and compelling than purely realistic representation. The results are landscapes that play on the depth we all know exists in nature and the dense, flat shapes developed on the panel.
